Saint-Germain-des-Pres is a district in Paris, the area developed during the end of the seventh century, continued to develop to become a centre of literature and theatre life. This district has always been home to both artists and clerics. Since 1805, the building located at 23 Quai de Conti has been the base where 40 members of the Academie Francaise have worked on the official dictionary of the French language. The world’s first coffeehouse Le Procope was founded in 1686 here, but is now a restaurant.
