Avenue Rachel
Montmartre is a hill in the district of the same name North of Paris; it’s the highest hill in Paris standing at 130 metres. Montmartre means mountain of the martyr.
Many artists worked or had studios in the district most notable being Salvador Dali, Modigliani, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh.
In the Russian occupation of Paris of 1814, they occupied Montmartre using its altitude to launch artillery bombardments on the city.
