Kensington is a district in West London. Kensington is bordered to the north by Notting Hill, to the east by Bromton and Knightsbridge to the south by Chelsea and Earl’s court and to the west by Hammersmith and Shepard’s Bush.
Kensington is known for its shops and stores, is a densely populated area, the houses are of Victorian and Georgian terraced some consisting of 4-6 floors. There are no high rise buildings expect for the Holiday Inn which is a 27 story hotel located on Cromwell Road. Kensington is served by 3 Underground Stations High Street Kensington, Gloucester Road and South Kensington.
Kensington has a number of attractions like the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal College of Music, the Natural History museum, the Science Museum and lots more. The name Kensington could have been taken from Saxon as Kying-tun which means where a king resides as once was the case. Kensington is mentioned in the doomsday book as Chenintun and at that time its owner was a goldsmith.

Before South Kensington’s development this was an agricultural land. It was only in the mid 19th century that an exhibition took place and at that time the land was purchased by the commissioners and hence development started. The first development was the institutions for science and art followed by the housing development.
Notable people who lived or stayed at South Kensington are Charles Booth a Pioneer of social research, Francis Bacon an Irish born artist and Benny Hill a comedian and actor.
South Kensington is a wealthily district of the Royal borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London. The area has many shops and restaurants for travellers and residents South Kensington has a lot of foreign schools and the Imperial College London is also in this district these institutions attracts a lot of foreign students.
South Kensington has two tube stations nearby South Kensington and Gloucester Road.
