HISTORICAL FACTS ABOUT VICTORIA

The land around Victoria was swamp land and attracted only the poor and criminals. It was only in 1816 with the opening of Vauxhall Bridge that paved the way for further development like the building of houses, institutions and shops.

Sites constructed in the past include The Victoria Palace Theatre constructed in 1832, Little Ben a 20ft version of Big Ben was erected in 1891, Victoria Picture Palace a cinema opened in 1911 and the house of Fraser which opened in 1872.
